Energy Patterns for October 2014

Major Waveform Patterns:

Oct 1st to the 5th -- coming out of the doldrums.
Oct 6th to the 18th -- the biggest storm in over 5 months.
Oct 19th to the 23rd -- a weak, noisy transition period.
Oct 24th to the 31st -- a weaker, but rougher storm.

An online ephemeris for the month is available. Check Current Transits, too.

At last, the waveforms are doing something for a change! We get about two weeks of a major storm pattern, followed a short time later by a more minor storm, but there's more life in the waveforms than we've seen since May. Curiously, there doesn't seem to be much of an outer planet backbone to these storms. Rather than clustering around the same degree of many zodiac signs, the outer planets are spread out and hardly working together. The storms are actually driven by the faster moving planets, especially the Sun, Mercury and Venus which all collide at 23 degrees Libra starting around the 15th. This triggers off a lovely fire sign Grand Trine of Uranus,Mars and Jupiter. Since the tallest peaks in these graphs follow the faster planets instead of staying put with the slower ones, these peaks have a tendency to drift quickly through the zodiac signs, as you'll see. There are 4 main energy patterns to look at this month.

Oct 1st to the 5th

The 1st to the 5th is the end of the wimpy transition period in late September and the lead up to the big storm pattern this month. You can gradually watch the storm gather steam as we go through this period. The waveform varies in strength from 341 to 447 units -- weak to moderate energy levels still. The harmonic picture is a crazy mixture of many different harmonics, mostly H12, H6, H8, H24 and some noisy H48 -- basically positive, but not very well organized yet. The energies are most concentrated at 12-16, 6 and 3 degrees of each zodiac sign -- see where this hits your own chart. The fiery Grand Trine is quite active now, with help from Pluto, Chiron and the Sun. There's a tendency for emotional outbursts of several kinds, since the doors to the unconscious (Uranus, Pluto) are wide open, but self-control may be lacking. Impulsiveness may be a liberating influence, but it can also be a problem for the undisciplined. Tender egos are on the line with the Sun acting as a trigger planet. The Mercury retrograde cycle starts on the 4th, so the thinking mind is pretty shaky. Start gearing up for the big energy period coming up.

The Sun is square Pluto today, soon to be opposite Uranus (just before the lunar eclipse). Venus is the next trigger planet after the Sun. The Grand Trine of Uranus, Mars and Jupiter is transformed into a larger pattern that astrologers call a Kite, because it resembles the shape of the kites we flew as kids. We are entering the influence of the big Koz Alerts coming up shortly. Except for that square to Pluto, most of the aspects are rather positive and the planets involved are helpful, for the most part. The pace of life starts to pick up now, a bit crazier and more demanding than we've felt in many months (if you ignore the Pluto direct station Sep 22). If you can envision a higher view of what your life is about by tapping into that Uranus connection, the rest of the Kite will help you to ground this vision in your everyday life. It may require a big wake up call if you've settled into a rut lately. Surprises are good for us when we get too cozy...

Oct 6th to the 18th

The 6th to the 18th is the big storm of the month. The waveform ranges from 384 to 541 units -- the world becomes very active all of a sudden. The harmonics include a mix of H6, H12, H24 and H48 -- mostly positive and supportive, but with some rough spots now and then. The tallest peaks follow the faster moving planets, drifting from 14 degrees of each sign at the start to about 23 degrees by the end of the period. There are so many planets involved in this pattern, dropping in and out at various times, that it's hard to get a handle on how it will affect people. The Sun, Mercury and Venus are all coming together in late Libra, sextile Mars, so all the normal channels for how people experience and express their energies are on the line. Uranus and Pluto are mercifully getting quieter, but dreamy Neptune is taking their place -- this is mostly a change in the unconscious forces entering our lives. However this works out, the 15th to the 17th should be the main show. Try to focus your energies along constructive lines of work and avoid jumping to conclusions.

This storm is the high point of the month, the biggest Koz Alert since last April. The Grand Trine is somewhat less prominent, as some of those planets are out of the picture now. Still, about half the planets in the sky are directly part of this pattern, with more on the fringes, so it has quite a kick. Although the waveform looks quite positive and constructive, I have a feeling this may be more troublesome than one would expect. Partly this is a matter of sheer strength -- large storms tend to be overwhelming in their influence. Also, a number of the planets involved, such as Mars and Saturn, are hard to handle smoothly. Make the most of this energy, but watch out for the difficulties along the way. It's easy for your plans to get sidetracked.

Oct 19th to the 23rd

The 19th to the 23rd is a weak, noisy transition period after the storm. The energy levels collapse to the wimpy 363 to 475 unit region, though that high reading is actually more the lead up to the second storm of the month (next period). The harmonics are a messy combination of a fat H12, H48 and H6 -- mostly good, but too scattered to be of much use. The energies are most concentrated at 24 degrees drifting to 29, and some scraps at 17 degrees. The major storm is dying down, so you're probably dealing with all the leftovers from your earlier activities. Wind things up quickly, if possible, as there is no "oomph!" for supporting our efforts. The new moon on the 23rd is a partial solar eclipse in Scorpio, which can stir up emotions for quite some time.

Where'd all those towering Alert peaks go? It's amazing how quickly the storm falls apart, a disconcerting effect all by itself. Once you get used to high energy, it comes as quite a shock when that energy goes away. It's like someone pulled the rug out from underneath you. Hopefully you've tied up all the loose ends on any work you're doing already. If not, bring things to a tidy close as soon as possible. There's no tailwind for your efforts right now, so why should you buck the trend. We get one more chance at some action after the solar eclipse, so waiting a few days won't hurt anything.

Oct 24th to the 31st

Finally, the 24th to the end of the month is a mild, somewhat noisy storm. The waveform varies from 353 to 468 units -- weak to moderate influences. The harmonics are H24, H48, H6 and H12 -- the mood is more irritating and scattered than the first storm. The peaks drift from 0 to 6 degrees, with further peaks at 20 and 9 degrees. Mercury ends his retrograde cycle on the 25th, so the thinking mind should slowly recover after that. There's a moody, dreamy underlying mood during this time, as the Sun, Mercury and Venus all contact otherworldly Neptune. Mars enters Capricorn on the 26th, which makes it easier to get some work done, but as he approaches Pluto (conjunct on Nov 10), people may fall into power games (not good for the elections!). Go slowly and keep your ego in check. I don't see any immediate changes as we head into November.
