Energy Patterns for January 2002

Major Waveform Patterns:

Jan 1st to the 3rd -- a big New Year's storm to start the year.
Jan 4th to the 8th -- a little break between storms.
Jan 9th to the 17th -- the second blast of energy this month.
Jan 18th to the 21st -- a quiet time to reshuffle the planets.
Jan 22nd to the end of the month -- you've got to see this waveform to believe it!!

An online ephemeris for the month is available.

Pardon me if I get a little technical about the waveforms for January, but through the lens of the A5 Spectrum, this is quite an exceptional month. The 3 storm patterns this month are exceptionally powerful, and judging from previous periods like this, they are influences that you shouldn't underestimate. The only period in recent memory that's even remotely like this was the "Grand Finale" storm that I raved about so much in Jan /Feb of 1997. In many ways, I've never studied a planetary pattern so intense before, so we're all in for a surprise or two. If you throw in the quiet transition periods between storms, there are 5 distinct energies this month.

Jan 1st to the 3rd

The 1st to the 3rd is a contination of the storm pattern that kicked in the last few days of December, just before the lunar eclipse. The waveform strengthens into a towering Koz Alert (about 585 units) in the early morning hours of the 1st, though it cools off to an anemic 380 by the 3rd. The harmonics include H12, H36 and H24 -- generally positive and helpful, but a bit unfocused or disorganized. The tallest peaks emphasize the 8-9 degree region of each zodiac sign -- check where this affects your birthchart. The new year certainly starts out on a powerful note! Despite the obvious troubles and problems we are going through collectively, there's a marked undertone of confidence and optimism in this energy. Don't let the negative mood we're struggling under become a permanent fixture, since you're more likely to make something positive of adversity if you're thinking positively to begin with. Changes are already in the air and the energies are supporting your constructive moves. Keep a vision of an improved life before you and doors will start to open.

Jan 4th to the 8th

The 4th to the 8th is the first transition period. The waveform cools off to the 350 to 430 unit range -- no big energies here! The harmonics are mostly H12 and H48 -- the energies are weak and scattered, difficult to focus or direct. There is some mild emphasis around 9, 15 and 23 degrees of each sign. These "slump times" are important gifts this month, a time to step back, gather your wits and catch your breath. Although the storm patterns might show a wee bit of life now and then (like during a brief T-square on the 5th), this is basically a time of not much happening. Relax and pace yourself. Pluto is mildly active now (unlike the storm periods), so take it easy when interacting with others. There's a tendency to be emotionally manipulative, if you're not careful.

Jan 9th to the 17th

The 9th to the 17th is mildest of the 3 storms -- relatively speaking. The waveform varies from 380 to 558 units, which is quite a sizeable Koz Alert during normal times. The harmonics consist of H24, H12 and H8 most of the time -- things are turning more difficult and prone to conflicts or disagreements. The main peaks point to 8-9 and 24 degrees. If I had to pick the "heavy hitters" in this configuration, I'd point to Saturn and Uranus, which are repeatedly influenced by the faster moving planets. There's a tension between unexpected change and the status quo going on. You may feel either stuck in a rut and dying to dig yourself out, or caught in a whirlwind and looking for some stability -- and most likely, a little of both. The earlier part of this storm is the more intense time. By the new moon on the 13th, things are settling down some -- plus the lunation is a green light for starting new projects, anyway. Mercury is rapidly slowing down in preparation for its retrograde cycle, so it may feel like your mental lightbulbs are missing a few watts.

Jan 18th to the 21st

The 18th to the 21st is another transition period while the planets regroup and reorganize. The waveform settles down into the 350-430 unit range again -- time to kick back some. The harmonics consist of H48, H6 and H24, plus a lot of nondescript "noise" -- it's really hard to stay on track now for any length of time. The main peaks lie at the borders between signs (29 to 1 degrees) and 7-8 degrees; there are secondary peaks around 15 and 23 degrees. This period can feel like things are shifting quickly. Mercury is standing still, several planets change signs, Pluto is active, and there are several big aspects. Number one, relax and get your bearings. We are heading into a roller coaster time shortly, so it's best to not overload yourself prematurely. Try to feel out the new directions as they check in, so you won't be surprised in a few days.

Jan 22nd to the end of the month

Finally, the 22nd to the end of the month is the mother of all storms. The waveform starts and ends quietly enough (413 units), but in between is an unimaginable Koz Quake of 729 units that lasts for most of 5 days! The harmonics are mostly H12, H6, H24 and a small amount of H48 -- it would be easy and constructive, if it weren't hitting at hurricane strength. Again, look to 7-9 degrees. Pretty much every planet except Pluto is highly active now, so this could be quite a dramatic time. These influences will be felt on many levels, the purely personal as well as on the global stage. The shifts can be sudden and unexpected, but it will certainly be hard to put your finger on exactly what's happening. It's important to keep an optimistic outlook, no matter what occurs, as that helps you tap into the more refined parts of this energy. At first I thought this storm would regroup sometime in February, but apparently once it's gone, it simply evaporates. Small blessings...

In nearly 20 years of observing waveforms, I have never seen anything quite like this storm. It beats the old record (1989-4-3, 686 units) without even trying. It first goes into the Koz Quake region (above 600 units) briefly on the 24th, then returns for a 4 day Quake on the 25th to the 28th; the maximum strength of 729 units is more than I can imagine myself. I'd expect this period to be very chaotic and fast-moving, full of surprises and hard to make work out properly. There's also a feeling of drivenness or fated behavior, since many unconscious planets are part of the mixture. Life can feel very unreal at times. Stay flexible and go with the flow. It may seem like a long week, but remember that when this storm passes on the 31st, it dissipates completely. We don't get a lot of second chances later. Happy surfing!

(This would be a really good waveform to track with the Koz Kalculator, if you haven't tried it already.)
